“The UAE is closely following the case of Pavel Durov, founder of the Telegram app and UAE citizen, who was arrested by French authorities at Bourges airport and has submitted a request to the French government to urgently provide him with all consular services,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that “caring for citizens, safeguarding their interests, following up on their affairs and providing them with all kinds of care are the UAE’s top priorities.”

Durov was detained at Le Bourget Airport after his plane landed from Azerbaijan on Saturday evening, local news channels LCI and TF-1 reported.

French media reported that Paris had issued an arrest warrant for Durov, 39, on the grounds that his platform was used for money laundering, drug trafficking and allowing the sharing of content related to the sexual exploitation of minors.

In addition, Telegram confirmed that its founder Pavel Durov was arrested in France and “has nothing to hide.”
