Two new expatriate portals to launch on Wednesday – Jamaica Information Services

Two new online platforms will be launched on Wednesday (June 19) to enhance connections and engagement with Jamaicans abroad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson-Smith, disclosed this during a panel discussion at the 10th Jamaica Diaspora Biennial Conference held on June 17 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James.

“One of these portals is the Jamaica Diaspora Engagement Model (JAM-DEM), which has been requested for many years. It is a portal to directly understand investment opportunities and share information on services that are of direct relevance and particular interest to you, our diaspora,” the Minister said.

“We will be launching this service on Wednesday along with the Diaspora Registration Portal (DRP), which will allow you to share information on a voluntary basis about the work you or your organisation is doing overseas and allow other diasporas to contact you,” she added.

Senator Johnson-Smith said the registration portal would enable the diaspora to come together to support each other.

“What we want to do is help you support each other in philanthropy, community work and business so that wherever you are in the world, we can row together as a community,” she noted.

Senator Johnson Smith said Diaspora engagement is an important component of Jamaica’s foreign policy and will continue to play a key role in the country’s ongoing efforts to achieve a shared vision of social and economic stability.

She said the conference was an important platform for Jamaican expatriates to engage in discussions across borders and unite around a common vision for national progress.

“This Diaspora Conference provides a platform to discuss and resolve hot-button issues in a non-partisan manner, transcending political differences and focusing on common interests, emphasising One Jamaica.

“By engaging in open dialogue and seeking consensus, participants can work towards finding innovative solutions to the challenges facing Jamaica and its diaspora,” the Minister added.
