Two French military fighter jets crashed in the Vosges Mountains and the border region of Meurthe-et-Moselle on Wednesday morning. According to French media reports, there were three people on board: one pilot was found injured but alive.
The fighter plane crashed near Hautville, an area on the border between the Vosges Mountains and the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, south of Colombey-les-Belle. One of the pilots who escaped from the plane using an ejection seat has been found injured but conscious, according to local French newspaper Le République Orient. The search for another pilot and a student will continue.
It is not entirely clear whether the crash site was also damaged. Authorities reported in a press release that a rescue plan has been launched. The army, French gendarmerie, fire brigade and civilian rescue services are all involved in the operation. Authorities also asked people to avoid the area.
A French Air Force spokeswoman confirmed that the crashed planes were two Rafale fighter jets. She could not say whether anyone was killed in the accident.
