(CNS): Two boys were arrested for allegedly moving an excavator and placing the excavator arm into the roadway on Anton Bodden Avenue in Bodden Town after Labour Minister Dwayne Seymour, who was driving a government-owned black Chevrolet Tahoe, collided with the excavator arm at about 30am on Thursday, August 8. Police did not provide an update on the minister’s blood alcohol content test results.
The RCIPS said the night before the incident, someone reported “interfering with the same piece of heavy equipment” that had been safely stored by the owner in the Anton Bodden Road area. Once again, the excavator was safely secured by the owner.
However, police said that in the early hours of Thursday morning, around 12:30 before the accident, the excavator was again “disturbed and rushed onto the road surface, causing serious danger.”
Shortly before the collision, a citizen driving on Anton Boden Boulevard called 911 to report that an excavator boom was blocking the road and causing a traffic jam. “Seconds after the call … the citizen reported that a vehicle had just hit the excavator,” police said.
As Previous reportsSeymour suffered a head injury in the car accident. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the attending doctor at the hospital took a blood sample from Seymour for investigation at the request of the police.
As police investigated who had moved the excavator and placed the arm on the road surface, they had “reason to suspect” it could be a teenager living in the Bodden Town area. Two male teenagers were subsequently arrested on suspicion of reckless and negligent conduct. They were bailed pending further inquiries.
Police say they are still investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses who may know what happened to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
