Washington– Former President Donald Trump this Saturday once again attacked what he called “violent” immigrants and proposed that they should have their own fighting league, similar to the famous UFC that governs the American Mixed Martial Arts Championship.
The Republican told a crowd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that he had suggested to his friend, UFC president Dana White, that he hold a fight specifically targeting immigrants, from which he would win “tons of money.”
“You’re going to start a new fighting league of only immigrants … By the end of the year, the immigrant champion will be fighting your (UFC) champion, and I hate to tell you, Dana, I think the immigrants are going to win. They’re so tough,” Trump said of his idea, basing his remarks on his claims that newly arrived foreigners are violent.
As at other rallies, he referred to most immigrants as “drug dealers, gang members and murderers.”
Republicans are again using several cases in which the accused suspects are foreigners as political war horses. He pointed to the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Texas, this week, for which two Venezuelans who had recently entered the country were arrested and charged.
“They come across our border claiming they fear for their lives in Venezuela, but you know, crime has gone down in Venezuela … because they’re bringing all their criminals to the United States,” he surmised.
Trump also mentioned the arrest of an Ecuadorian man in New York on Tuesday who was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, and recent charges against a Salvadoran man for the rape and murder of mother of five Rachel Morin in Maryland in August 2023.
As in 2016, Trump is using freshmen as part of his strategy to boost his campaign by blaming them for solving the nation’s biggest problems. But unlike his first campaign, immigration is one of the most important issues voters will want addressed in 2024.
He again falsely accused them of taking jobs from Americans, particularly Latinos and African Americans.
Amid applause, the former president reiterated his plan to “begin the largest deportation operation in American history” and close the country’s southern border if he is re-elected.
Trump once again criticized President Joe Biden, calling him corrupt and the “worst president in history.”
The unsurprising Republican nominee is focusing his campaign on key states like Pennsylvania, where he lost in 2020 by just over 1 percentage point.
This was Trump’s second event on Saturday; he spoke at a conference of the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, a group of ultra-conservative Christians.
Trump is preparing to face Biden in the first debate next Thursday at CNN headquarters in Atlanta, the first of two televised head-to-head debates the two candidates will have before the Nov. 5 election.
Currently, the two candidates are almost tied. According to the poll average prepared by the FiveThirtyEight website, Biden leads with 40.7% of voting intentions, followed by Trump with 40.5%. Effie/Infrared
