Libreville, Sunday, August 25, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Minister of Transport, Merchant Shipping and the Maritime, Dieudonné Loïc Ndinga Moudouma, held another working meeting with representatives of the ministry composed of administrators, technicians and drivers of the National Union (SYNATEC), where a change of mood was observed since August 16, 2024.
Moreover, the member of the administration showed himself to be an expert negotiator before managing to convince the strikers on certain points. This led them to pour a little water on the factory and agree to resume work, while setting a deadline during which they would risk reconsidering everything if appropriate solutions were not provided for their various demands, which they recorded in specifications and handed over to the authorities.
“The Gabonese people expect tangible changes, not just words. I do not want to blame any specific entity, but it is necessary to stop and make a paradigm shift, because you will be judged on your skills and your results. We are at the beginning of this transformation and there is no doubt that we cannot miss this opportunity to revitalize and improve our structures, including by rewriting texts that for many are outdated and have been stagnant for 20 years, as in the transport sector. ” said Mr. Dieudonné Loïc Ndinga Moudouma at the end of the meeting on Tuesday, 20 August.
The President of SYNATEC, Mr. Cyril Gaston Ndoudi Ledoumou, for his part, insisted on respecting the deadlines set by his colleagues. “The social partners and all agents are expected to take concrete actions by the end of September and if the commitments made are not respected, especially the payment of arrears of wages and bonuses, the strike will inevitably resume”, revealed Mr. Cyril Gaston Ndoudi Ledoumou.
Ms. Eugenie Maramba, SYNATEC spokesperson for the Gabonese Transport Company (SOGRATRA), said: “We are satisfied with the minister’s approach, as we have tried to express our government’s concerns to the Directorate General of Land Transport (DGTT) and others, and we raised the issue of non-payment of bonuses by SOGATRA, and we hope that this issue will be resolved for a more stable tomorrow. We also discussed the land needed to build a specific headquarters to improve management efficiency. The problem of the lack of liaison and service vehicles was also resolved.”
In the end, September 25 was chosen as the deadline to meet the demands of the strikers. This concerned, in particular, the payment of the seventh month bonus, the payment of various bonus arrears, and the revision of texts related to the organization and functioning of the ministry’s departments, which had been out of date for several months.
