This morning, a locomotive of the Mossamedes Railway (CFM), carrying 250 tourists from all over the country, collided on the outskirts of Lubango with a truck carrying 10,000 liters of drinking water that was being sold to the residents of the Kanquinda neighborhood.

The truck driver did not respect railroad signs and failed to see the automatic fences common on rail lines that announce the approach of a locomotive, thus requiring a waiver of right-of-way codes and other standards under highway regulations.

The train’s destination is the Mutipa tourist complex on the outskirts of Namibe province, part of a package developed to promote rural tourism that includes, in addition to Huila, lands from Huambo, Cuando Cubango, Cunene and Welwitschia.

Passenger Marlene Joaquim said that after the panic caused by the collision, she now feels much calmer thanks to the timely intervention of Angola’s National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEMA), which rescued those in the most distress and calmed the emotions not only of the occupants but also of the dozens of residents who live near the railway line.

In turn, the management of the Mossamedes Railway decided to suspend the trip until the moral and material conditions for the railway were created.

to achieve this effect.
