Jakarta(ANTARA) –
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is keen to offer sound therapy using traditional and musical instrument elements as an alternative mental health activity in all tourism villages in Indonesia.

He noted here on Thursday that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 970 million people suffered from mental disorders, anxiety and depression in 2019.

He conducted a study with a professor while he was deputy governor of Jakarta and found that nearly 20% of Jakarta residents had mental health problems.

Therefore, he said, people need to be more aware and educated about mental health issues.

He added that tourism and the creative economy are closely related to mental health, and young people today are interested in health tourism.

At the same time, the ministry has developed more than six thousand tourist villages across the country, which are part of the Tourism Village Network (Jadesta).

Uno said tourist villages could include sound therapy as one of their attractions as part of health tourism.

“Each region in Indonesia has its own unique musical instrument. For example, I saw a Angkron At Marzoeki Hospital, we can use Angkron In West Java, Kolintang North Sulawesi Province, Gamelan In Central Java,” he said.

According to Maya Hasan, a harpist, performer, and music, sound and frequency bioresonance practitioner, Indonesia has many traditional musical instruments. She said music can be a therapeutic and preventive health tool.

She adds: “I recommend using instrumental music so that the patient doesn’t associate certain words with bad memories or events in their life.”

She said the presence of music in medical settings can not only help patients, It also helps reduce stress on healthcare workers, allowing them to work more effectively.
