Tourist vehicles for the disabled are exempted from 75% tariff

Sami Suleiman, Director of the Road Transport Department at the Ministry of Transport, revealed that the Ministry of Transport has begun the implementation procedures related to Legislative Decree No. 19 of 2024, which concerns the rights of people with disabilities and the obligations of public and private entities regarding them.
Suleiman said that immediately after the decree was issued, the Minister of Transport instructed all relevant departments and authorities to provide all necessary facilities to persons with disabilities in accordance with Articles 24 and 25 of the above decree, adding: Therefore, a notification has been issued to all transport offices in various provinces to complete transactions for persons with disabilities through a designated window. The transport offices will provide them with all the necessary facilities as soon as possible.
Suleiman added: In addition, each bureau has an employee assigned who goes to the place where the disabled person lives if he is unable to come to the bureau due to his disability, and the employee takes the required fingerprints and completes the treatment of the disabled person at the place where he is with the disability.
The Director General of Road Transport said that the most important point of relevance to the Ministry of Transport is Article 23, Clause “B” of Chapter V “Exemptions” which provides for persons with disabilities and their companions, Article 24 allows persons with reduced mobility to have a tourist car of special specifications, imported or locally manufactured, appropriate to the degree of their disability, according to the type of disability. He can drive it in a manner that ensures his safety and the safety of road users.
He stated that cars for persons with disabilities provided for in Article 24 of this decree are exempted from 75% of the customs duties of similar cars, as well as all other taxes and fees, including the license price, thus the percentage of exemption from customs duties is the same as provided for in Legislative Decree No. 57 of 2012, but the cars are additionally exempted from the annual fee, the license plate price and the annual fee for the traffic license as an additional exemption provided for in Legislative Decree No. 57 of 2012.
