JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy predicts that the number of domestic tourists will increase by 10% to 20% during the June-July 2024 school holidays.
“It is expected that the number of visitors will increase by 10% to 20% compared to usual during the school holidays,” Nia Niskaya, an expert at the ministry, said in the “Sandy Uno Weekly Briefing” in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She added that industry players and destination managers must prepare, including for the possibility of large numbers of tourists congregating in one place at the same time.
Niskaya advised managers to properly handle such issues to provide tourists with the best experience possible, as tourism is a perception-based industry.
“If the experience is not good, it can become a disaster because people will share their bad experience and not come back,” she explained.
To this end, she asked tourism operators to pay attention to safety, security and hygiene.
On safety, she asked destination managers to use visitor management techniques, especially monitoring crowd points.
Furthermore, she asked managers to ensure that the use of amusement facilities or tourist attractions is in line with their carrying capacity.
She also stressed the importance of evacuation routes and asked managers of tourist destinations to install rally point markers so that tourists would know where to flee in the event of a disaster.
“Then, it is also important to pay attention to weather changes, such as what the Meteorological, Climate and Geophysical Bureau (BMKG) communicates,” she said.
Niskaya asked all tourism destination managers to constantly coordinate with all parties to ensure that the holiday situation remains good, which will encourage tourists to visit the destination again.
