SAN FELIPE, PUERTO PLATA – Tourism Secretary David Collado launched this Wednesday the reconstruction of the streets of the city’s historic center, with an investment of nearly 80 million pesos.
The project involves the reconstruction of streets, sidewalks and containers in the city’s downtown area, directly affecting the city’s local residents as well as tourists, mainly cruise ship passengers who disembark at the tourist ports of Amber Bay and Taino Bay.
Corrado highlighted the investments and works carried out during his administration to enhance the tourist destination and ongoing projects, such as the rehabilitation of Sosúa Beach and the renovation of the iconic Puerto Plata Cable Car.
“These interventions will mark a before-and-after change for the entire historic city center. Puerto Plata’s moment has definitely arrived,” the tourism secretary said.
This road project in San Felipe is being implemented by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure of the Tourist Region (CEIZTUR) at a total cost of RD$79,855,074.95.
The sections requiring intervention correspond to Juan Escaño Avenue (old railway line); Restauración Street expansion (Juancho Escaño Avenue and Caamaño Street connection).
It also includes Antera Mota, Luis Espinosa, 30 De Marzo, Los Jazmines San Felipe and Calle Aserradero streets.
In addition, Avenida 27 De Febrero, El Morro and Cardenal Sancha streets will also be subject to intervention.
Juan Escaño Avenue (old railway line) will be involved in a 751-meter stretch and 834 meters of 27 de Febrero.
Meanwhile, El Morro Street will undergo a 1,020-meter section and a 934-meter section of Cardenal Sancha.
The project included the reconstruction of 9,318 linear meters of containment and 17,256 square meters of pavement, including the realignment of the pavement on three road axes by applying a new 2-inch asphalt concrete layer on the road.
