By POLITICAL REPORTER — One of the country’s most renowned journalists, Simba Rushwaya, has died.

Rashvaja died of colon cancer at the age of 49 at the Parilun Yatva Group of Hospitals on Tuesday.
Announcing the death of Rashwaya, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) said the press was devastated.
“Rashwaya is a professional and respected individual who has worked for various media outlets in Zimbabwe, primarily as a sports journalist,” the statement read.
His distinguished career also saw him elected as Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Sports Journalists Association (2000-2003).
Rashwaya began his career as a junior sports reporter for Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe (ANZ) in 2000 and was promoted to deputy sports editor in March 2003.
In September 2004, he joined the then Zimbabwe Mirror Group as deputy sports editor. He was subsequently promoted to sports editor in December 2005, a position he held until March 2007.
ZUJ said Rashwaya then moved to Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) and joined Newsday newspaper as a senior sports reporter and was promoted to AMH group sports editor in 2014.
After AMH, the veteran journalist worked at Flame News from February to April 2015 and was news editor at the Gauteng Guardian from 2016 to 2017.
In June 2019, Rashwaya returned to ANZ as deputy news editor of the Daily News. At the time of his death, Rashwaya had just joined the Manika Post as a senior sports reporter.
