Drivers will be able to cross the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge for free until 6pm today, thanks to work being done by the Highways and Transportation Authority (ACT) on Baldorioty de Castro Avenue.

The toll to cross the bridge is $3.80. The bridge stretches 0.25 miles or 0.5 kilometers and connects San Juan and Carolina.

The closure of Baldorioty de Castro Avenue, one of the main avenues in the metropolitan area, is due to the installation of a structure at kilometer 4.1 as part of the construction of a new pedestrian bridge. To carry out the installation work of the structure, it is necessary to close it in both directions, from kilometer 2.0 in the direction of Carolina to kilometer 8.0 in the direction of San Juan. Baldorioty de Castro Avenue is the main road to the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

As an alternative, the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge will no longer charge tolls from midnight yesterday until 6pm today, the authorities announced.

During the express closure, drivers must use the following detours:

Traveling to Carolina:

Vehicles traveling from Old San Juan and Santurce to Carolina on PR-26 must take the South Rim at mile 3.0 and then head toward Carolina. Once drivers cross the Rim Road, they will have two options to rejoin PR-26 toward Carolina.

Alternative 1:

Use the marginal line until you reach the intersection with Degetau Street, where you must turn left until you reach the intersection with Loíza Street. Then turn right and continue along Loíza Street and Isla Verde Avenue until you rejoin Román Baldorioty de Castro (PR-26).

Alternative 2:

Continue along the edge until you reach the intersection with Tapia Street, then turn right until you reach Gilberto Monroig Street. Then they must turn left until Pellín Rodríguez Street, then turn left again until the intersection with the PR-26 edge, then turn right to join the PR-26 highway again.

Drivers leaving Old San Juan or Isla Verde and heading east of the island can detour from PR-1 to PR-17. To reach the airport, use PR-17 to the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge or take Bypass Road 8 (PR-8) to Iturregui or Campo Rico Avenues and continue east to PR-26.

Likewise, drivers heading to the east of the island along PR-22 and PR-18 must take alternative routes such as the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge via Spur Road 8 (PR-8) and PR-3, as well as Avenida Campo Rico and Iturregui.17.
