The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) on Tuesday passed the National Bureau of Statistics (Amendment) Bill 2018, 2024, incorporating all observations and recommendations, which now awaits the President’s signature into law.
The bill will help the country obtain data for development planning and conduct regular population censuses, which are relevant to the conduct of elections and determining constituency boundaries.
“The lawmakers passed the bill on the third and final reading, including all amendments, comments and suggestions, after thoroughly discussing it,” TNLA spokesman Oliver Mori told reporters after the meeting. “One of the most important comments was the issue of the (financial) figures mentioned in the bill. The House decided that the SSP figures mentioned in the bill should be deleted and will be dealt with by the board in accordance with the bureau’s regulations. This is because the SSP has been devalued.”
TNLA spokesman Djemma Nunu Kumba said parliament had done its duty by passing the bill.
“Honourable members of the House, the NBS Bill 2024 now comes to the final reading stage for passage chapter by chapter with the full text accompanied by schedules,” she announced.
