Tmcel-Mozambique Telecom will provide space for the construction of new facilities for the Faculty of Engineering of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), thanks to a memorandum of understanding recently signed between the two institutions. The space will be located on Avenida Mozambique in Maputo and will have an area of 50,539 square metres.

Classrooms and laboratories, a center for teaching excellence and acceleration of engineering practices, a library and other infrastructure will be built on site. Under this memorandum, the two parties will establish a partnership whereby Tmcel will receive interns from UEM in the field of computer technology and teach at the School of Engineering. This agreement is the culmination of Tmcel’s corporate social responsibility actions, as Tmcel believes that investment in education is essential for the overall development of a country and is a key factor in building a more prosperous and equitable society, which will benefit not only the current generation but also future generations.

Mahomed Adamo Mussá, president of the Tmcel Management Board, stressed after the signing of the memorandum that the provision of space is a recognition of the role played by Eduardo Mondlane University in training its employees and, through this, in the development of the country.

“So far, UEM has trained technicians, engineers, doctors, some of whom are now in this company. However, we feel that today’s market dynamics are completely different in terms of technology. Therefore, we feel that the university must also change in this regard in order to train employees who can keep up with such dynamics. It is in this sense that we feel it is convenient and useful to provide space to UEM to build the future facilities of the School of Engineering,” he said.

For Mahomed Adamo Mussá, a strong university is fundamental to training new talents to face the challenges of the market, which is why “we want UEM to continue to be an incubator for the best engineers, contributing to the development of the economies of this country”.

“We have included education as one of the main pillars and areas of action in our social responsibility area of action, therefore, we recognize the importance of this partnership for national development and we realize that we must work together and thus contribute to a quality, inclusive and inclusive education system for all. Only in this way can we achieve a more hopeful and sustainable future, focusing our social responsibility on education,” he concluded.

UEM Rector Manuel Guilherme Júnior believes that Tmcel’s move will help improve teaching conditions at the School of Engineering. “It is the best way to ensure that the next generation is trained. Those who will contribute to the development of this country.”

“UEM’s Faculty of Engineering has a long history of training, but for some reason, the space it had was no longer adequate or sufficient. Tmcel has taken on a great responsibility, and through the Faculty of Engineering, this will make higher education better than what we currently have,” he stressed.

On this occasion, the Dean of UEM congratulated Tmcel for its position, because “when the production sector understands that it does not only have to wait for the end of the process to have the employees it needs and decides to be part of the training process. There are other ways to provide support, in this particular case, providing a very privileged space that gives universities and colleges the dignity they deserve”.
