On May 10, 2024, Timor-Leste attended the 30th China-ASEAN Senior Officials’ Consultation held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. 
The meeting reviewed the development of China-ASEAN relations and discussed the future direction of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership as well as regional and international issues. 
As an observer state of the organization, Timor-Leste had the opportunity to express some views and appreciate the progress of cooperation between ASEAN and China in various areas and initiatives discussed. The national delegation also emphasized the importance that Timor-Leste attaches to various forms of cooperation in the three pillars of ASEAN and related fields, and expressed its willingness to contribute and participate in these cooperation efforts and initiatives in the future. 
The meeting was co-chaired by Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Kinthi Ta Aye, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Sun Weidong. A number of ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting leaders, members of the ASEAN Secretariat and Timor-Leste attended as observers. The Timor-Leste delegation was led by Director General of ASEAN Affairs, Elisa da Silva, accompanied by Counselor Crisonio de Araujo and ASEAN Liaison Representative Iván Alves.
