Timor-Leste Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion Veronica Das Dorais attended the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council meeting held on 12 and 8 October 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The event brought together high-level representatives from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste as observers to discuss emerging trends, challenges and recommendations for developing the ASCC strategic plan, including digitalization, demographic change, climate change and stakeholder engagement.
In her speech, Minister Veronica Das Dores expressed deep gratitude to the Lao Government for its warm reception and stressed the importance of regional cooperation to address common challenges. “Timor-Leste shares the same concerns as other ASEAN countries, especially in terms of climate threats and cybersecurity,” the Minister said, stressing the importance of a strong and adaptable strategy for the region’s future.
The Minister also commended the comprehensive consultation process led by the AHWG Co-Chairs and the ASEAN Secretariat, saying “these diverse perspectives and expert guidance will contribute to the development of a post-2025 strategic plan that is inclusive and aligned with the ASEAN region’s sustainable development goals”.
