(CNS): Nominations for the 2024 Proud of Them Youth Recognition Awards are now open and will close on Friday, September 6. Anyone can submit a nomination for a young Caymanian who has excelled in a variety of nomination categories including academics, sports, community service, business, careers and culture. Self-nominations are also accepted.
This year’s 15 honorees will be announced at the “Proud of Them” awards gala in November, broadcast on the CIG YouTube channel. Past honorees include Olympians, successful business owners, internationally renowned performing artists, leaders of service organizations, and technology innovators.
Eleven years into the program’s launch, about 160 young people, aged 10 to 25, have been featured on billboards across Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.
Last year, the program underwent significant improvements, including a new brand color scheme, updated scoring protocols, adopted an online form, and introduced a new category to recognize two rising stars.
Minister of Youth Isaac Rankine said: “Establishing these recognition measures is a key tool to motivate young people. This is a Government-led initiative to show young people that their hard work is making a difference in our communities. This initiative has not gone unnoticed as they are inspiring us to take action and drive to secure the future of our islands.”
In 2023, the program received its first private sponsorships from Greenlight RE and CICSA Cooperative Credit Union, as well as private sector sponsors in other award categories.
