CHICAGO (apro) – On a night that celebrated a desire to build an inclusive nation, one that embraces freedom and rights and rejects polarization and racism, Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for Vice President of the United States.
Waltz, the running mate of the party’s U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris, was earmarked by his co-religious peers as a complement to the political formula for preserving democracy, security and peace in the country.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to accept your nomination to serve as Vice President of the United States,” Waltz announced before delegates from all 50 states, while thanking Harris for choosing him as her running mate and Joe Biden for his support of his presidency.
Democrats in Chicago stood up and chanted his name, recognizing their vice presidential candidate as a man who has spent his life serving the middle class as governor of Minnesota, a public school teacher and a sports coach.
Walz spoke at the United Center about how, with his leadership and the support of his people, his state has managed to reduce taxes for working taxpayers and increase the number of students in public institutions and provide them with subsidized breakfast and lunch.
“When Democrats talk about freedom, we mean that they make their own decisions about their own health care system and that their children in public schools are not afraid of becoming victims of shootings,” Waltz stressed in his acceptance speech.
Regarding Trump and Vance, he stressed that it means nothing to Republican politicians to talk to neighbors about everyday problems, and all they know is to increase taxes on the middle class and lower taxes on the rich.
“Their agenda is only going to radicalize us. Is that a weird agenda? Sure, they’ve been insulting each other, but I’m ready to turn the page and we’re not going back,” Waltz said as the audience chanted, “We’re not going back, we’re not going back.”
The vice presidential candidate asked his Democratic colleagues to tell people what Harris intends to do as president so that voters who have not yet decided who to vote for on November 5 can make the right decision.
“Kamala Harris is ready, she will lower taxes for the middle class, we have 76 days to decide, and there will be time to sleep when we die … When we fight: ‘We win,'” the Democrat responded to Waltz at the end of the third day of the convention.
At the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, the epicenter of the Democratic National Convention, the Harris-Waltz duo became the hope for millions of Americans to defeat Donald Trump and JD Vance in the November election.
Sports arenas in the Windy City were packed on the third day of the convention to echo the words and praises of Democratic leaders, former presidents, comedians and musicians, who were united by one goal: to ensure the defeat of Trump and the Republican Party.
Former President Bill Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, comedian Kenan Thompson and music legend Stevie Wonder have all spoken out in support of the Democratic duo.
Another coincidence in the third night of speeches by Chicago Democrats was that Trump was vilified as a megalomaniac, a racist, someone who indulges in lies, conspiracy theories, and encourages violence and ultra-conservative radicalism.
“I just turned 78, but I’m younger than Donald Trump,” former President Clinton declared before an audience of Democratic delegates and the crowd at the United Center, proving once again that he is a beloved member of the party and a great orator.
“Kamala Harris is the only person who has the temperament, the vision, the experience, the fun of being president of the United States, and the Republicans (Trump) only talk about himself, about how many lies he’s told, his complaints, his conspiracies, his vendettas, me, me, me,” Clinton emphasized to applause from the audience.
Hillary highlighted that Harris is a woman who thinks and worries about what others need before starting her day, as opposed to Trump, who she said starts his mornings talking about nothing but him.
In discussing what Trump means for the United States, Clinton cited the example of other countries no longer respecting Americans, while authoritarian leaders such as Russia and North Korea are described as allies by the new Republican presidential candidate.
Jeffries, who also aspires to become Speaker of the House if his party wins the presidential and general elections on Tuesday, Nov. 5, has touted the Democratic candidate as the solution to middle-class economic problems.
“We need a quality education for our children in our public schools and a high-quality health care system for everyone, and that’s why we will elect Harris and Walz in November,” the Democratic minority leader said.
Congressman Jeffries, who is also one of the leaders of the African American community, insisted that with Harris, immigrants will find hope instead of being attacked or subjected to violence, and like other Americans, they will be able to achieve the American dream.
“This road has not been easy, and Trump is like an ex-girlfriend: ‘You broke up with me, but you can’t get rid of me,’ but if we left him, it was for a reason,” Jeffries stressed in a statement, analogizing what he said was Trump’s stubbornness to hurt his country again.
Kennan Thompson, a comedian and one of the longest-serving members of the social and political satire show Saturday Night Live, brought enthusiasm and joy to the United Center and mocked Trump with his radical government plan called “Project 2025.”
Thompson sarcastically read passages from the Republican document that showed the radicalism with which Trump intends to govern America again, including a promise to eliminate social programs and the Department of Education.
Witnesses and victims of the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, at the urging of Trump, in an attempt to prevent the federal Congress from approving Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States, come to the United Center.
“I was attacked with a stick with an American flag, it was an act of terror, I have never faced danger like this, not even when I was a soldier and fighting in Iraq,” Capitol Police Officer Aquilino Goneril told Democrats gathered in Chicago.
The stadium erupted in joy, chorus and applause as Stevie Wonder used his music to get Democrats chanting the names of Harris and Waltz, the hope of American democracy and decency.
The Democratic National Convention will close in Chicago on Thursday, August 22, and so far this political event has brought good results to Harris and Waltz, as 81 million people watched the meeting on TV, according to US media reports.
Unlike the Republican convention held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a few weeks ago, former U.S. presidents, ethics and entertainment leaders gathered at the Democratic convention in Chicago to designate Harris and Waltz as candidates.
