In the Managua court, Otoniel Ortiz, Edwin Centeno and Emelda Gómez were indicted for allegedly stealing 11,000 bags of rice, valued at more than 10 million cordobas, from a distribution company.
During oral and public trial, the defendants alleged that since 2019, the defendants had been stealing products and falsifying inventory records.
All the defendants have protested their innocence and argued that the company could not have failed to notice such a severe product shortage.
The Public Ministry questioned the general manager and sales manager of the collection company as witnesses, both of whom stressed that they had no suspicion as they had great trust in the current defendant.
“In November 2023, an inventory was compiled due to discrepancies between the actual inventory and the inventory present in the system. All documents started to be reviewed internally to verify that everything was clear,” the charges stated.
The Accounting Field Assistant begins the review to ensure that everything in the output and input of the product is well documented and requires financial solvency for verification.
Later, the sales manager said that when Otoniel Ortiz, who was in charge of the area, counted the inventory at the Managua warehouse, he found that more than 11,000 packages were missing.
During the trial, the technical defense tried to exonerate the defendants and pointed out that they should be investigated whether they were actually responsible for the theft within the company.
