Three people died and four others are fighting for their lives in the attack festival exist Germany.
According to Bild, a man randomly stabbed passers-by in the western German city of Solingen on Friday evening.
Police said the attacker was on the run after the shooting at Fraunhofer Platz in the city center at around 9:45 pm local time (7:45 pm GMT), German news agency dpa reported.

The news agency cited an unnamed police source as saying the murder weapon was believed to be a knife and that no arrests had been made yet.
Police have now confirmed that the attack has left three people dead and four seriously injured.
Philipp Müller, one of the festival organisers, appeared on stage and asked attendees to “remain calm”, adding: “Keep your eyes open because, unfortunately, the perpetrators have not yet been caught.” He said many people had been injured by “knife-wielding men”.

“We in Solingen are in shock this evening,” local mayor Tim Kutzbach said in a Facebook post. “We all wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together, but now we have to mourn the dead and injured.” He added: “It breaks my heart that our city has been attacked.”
The diversity festival, which marks the city’s 650th anniversary, opened on Friday and was due to run through Sunday, with several stages on the central streets offering live music, cabaret and acrobatics.
Solingen has a population of around 160,000 and is located near the larger cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf.
