Rajapaksa also said he has not yet informed the party of such information. He made the remarks in response to a question from a reporter on who will represent Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the elections.
Rajapaksa mentioned that Sri Lanka’s candidate, Bodujana Peramuna, will be able to repay the country’s debt without selling national assets.
He mentioned that several candidates are being discussed with the party and the right one will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, Transport and Highways Minister Bandura Gunawardena said there are no plans to postpone the presidential election as some have claimed and a new president should be chosen before October 17 this year.
Minister Bandura Gunawardena said this while inspecting the Hatton railway station and the new building constructed by the Urban Development Authority on the land of Hatton railway station.
Minister Bandura Gunawardena further commented that President Ranil Wickremesinghe, as Finance Minister, has provided Rs10 billion from the budget to the Election Commission for conducting the presidential election.
The minister also said he had received information that his brother minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa would contest as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
Ceylon Labour Congress Nuwara Eliya District Commissioner Marudapandi Rameswaran and several other railway officials participated in the visit.
