Traian Băsescu said on Sunday evening that he did not believe the report of the prosecutor conducting the investigation at St. Pantelimon Hospital, referring to the “pre-DNA performances of the Kovesi era that were transferred” to this medical unit. Băsescu also said that it seemed absolutely irresponsible to accuse doctors of being criminals.
“I do not believe this report of the prosecutor. The performances in the days of Kovesi before the DNA were moved to the Pantelimon Hospital. This is exactly the film that Mrs. Kovesi used during her tenure as chief DNA prosecutor”, said Traian Băsescu on Romanian TV on Sunday. He noted that the prosecutor should have sent the two doctors of the St. Pantelimon Hospital for psychiatric consultation before charging them with premeditated murder. “First of all, in my opinion, it is absolutely irresponsible to have a doctor accused of a crime. If this prosecutor has, I would say, I don’t want to criticize the prosecutor, but what is written, if this prosecutor is sure that he wrote correctly that this was a premeditated crime, then before writing him he should have sent them to a psychiatric department to see if they were sane. You can’t say that a doctor who treats dozens of people a day is a premeditated criminal, that he committed a crime with premeditation, without questioning his sanity. Or that he didn’t do it, but collected it from the nurses. If you read the prosecutor’s story, you will see things like this, that some nurses and medical nurses crawled over like that and illegally put the drugs where the bad doctor didn’t put them. Such a thing is impossible. Well, those nurses and medical nurses are arrestable,” said Traian Basescu.
He also added that he has seen foreign experts complaining that we do not have a complete protocol in such cases. “I am not against public debate. But it must be done correctly, we should not put pressure on the courts as in the days of Mrs. Kăvesi, also with the support of the media, to which Mrs. Kăvesi gave some beads, which she had to put on TV and print media, and of course everyone knows about thieves, bandits, and then when they reach the judge, many cases fail. We risk falling into the same situation. I have also seen foreign interventions, confirming that the doctors did the right technical work. Foreign medical circles criticize us for not having a complete protocol.
