They pointed out that inflated prices are one of the most important reasons why some people do not want to engage in domestic tourism, so they turn to foreign tourism due to the high prices within domestic tourism facilities. Travel is not limited to European countries, but also. Even during the Eid holidays, some countries in the region are included, whose facilities are characterized by high prices and much less than their domestic counterparts.
In this context, the citizens confirm that the rental prices of the chalets are very high relative to the services enjoyed by the tenants, that most chalets adopt a price for the rental of chalets that is separate from the provision of services such as daily meals, and that the prices have also increased. Weekend exaggerations point out that the retiree card is not valid on holidays and special occasions and the full rental price is charged. In addition, the discounts for certain parties or subscriptions do not include activities in the chalets, do not include promotional offers. , and are limited to weekdays, the chalets are not suitable destinations, they add, “although the nightly rental prices are high, we find it difficult to have vacant chalets on occasion and weekends”. Cost is not comprehensive
Mr. Khaled Ahmed Al Marzouqi began by saying that he rented a chalet for two nights during Eid for 5,000 riyals, adding that the value of the chalet rental does not include many services, such as food and beverages, pointing out that although the chalet is rented, the prices of services such as restaurants and cafes apply to external consumers, as the same value of the product, whether it is food or beverages, applies to the person who rents the chalet or the person who comes from abroad just to eat and drink.
Al-Marzouqi explained that the price increases were exaggerated and amounted to massive and unacceptable exploitation, and he called for at least special discounts for tenants.
“While the prices for cabin rentals are ridiculous, I didn’t find any cabins vacant on weekends or for special occasions,” Al-Marzouqi said.
He added that chalet owners take advantage of occasions such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha to increase the nightly rent, explaining that the price does not include the benefits when renting a chalet, but only the rent of the property, and that the services or daily meals incurred thereafter will be calculated separately from the price or nightly rent. For example, the value of your chalet for two nights is 5,000 QRs, and with the food and beverage services, the amount comes to 7,000 QRs.
Al-Marzouqi pointed out that some entities offer special discounts on chalets to their employees, but do not include weekends or special occasions, nor promotional offers launched by chalets, which are offered on normal days when people do not go there. He continued, “In my opinion, this is unfair because chalets are places for rest and relaxation, and people go there on holidays and occasions, not on weekdays, so the discounts should include occasions and weekends.”
Emergency intervention
Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Darwish agreed with his predecessor and said that retirees can get discounts in hotels or holiday homes, but not on certain occasions and weekends. Discounts include events and weekends, as they are appropriate times for people to rest and have fun, noting that normal weekdays, even for retirees, are not suitable to spend in chalets or hotels.
He added that it is not just the rental prices of cabins that are high, but the prices of rest houses in the country are exaggerated and fictitious and are determined by the owners of the rest houses, without a price list or by the rental houses. The relevant authorities pointed out that these prices require urgent intervention by the relevant authorities to determine and work to organize a mechanism for rest house reservations. Al-Darwish explained that finding cabins for special occasions is difficult due to the lack of vacancies, while rest houses, although not the same as cabins, are competitive in price, despite the difference in location, because cabins are located on the sea and rest houses are located in other areas far from the sea. The services of rest houses are modest compared to those of cabins located on the sea, which offer some services that are considered privileges but are not found in rest houses, not to mention the amount of insurance and other expenses and requirements that tenants need when resting, such as food, drinks, etc. In addition, some rest houses do not have licenses and are not legal in their locations. He expressed the hope that the relevant departments will supervise private rest houses and cabins and establish a price list that does not exceed, and suggested developing some beaches, building cabins and renting them out to citizens and residents at reasonable prices, as this will benefit the national economy and promote domestic tourism.
Increase in demand
In turn, Mr. Muhammad Al-Salem attributed the increase in the rent of cabins and guest houses to the increased demand during the Eid holidays, and said: The rental prices of cabins and guest houses have become extremely exaggerated, which requires solutions that make domestic tourism accessible to everyone, especially those with limited incomes, pointing out that the current rents represent… a huge burden for those who wish to stay in a cabin or rest house for a night or two, and suggested that the relevant authorities issue temporary licenses to the Tourism Bureau during the summer season to rent out some properties suitable for use as rest houses or cabins to citizens and residents under the controls and conditions prescribed by the law. The relevant authorities are responsible for handling this matter and controlling and setting conditions for prices so that they do not exceed a certain ceiling, so that events and weekends are not used to increase nightly rents as is currently the case.
Al-Salem’s proposal for temporary permits includes allowing the tourism board to rent mobile cabins on the coast during the summer, but in the long term it is necessary to use the coastal area to increase the presence of cabins in a way that serves the country’s tourism industry and benefits the national economy.
Overpriced
Mr. Muhammad Al-Hamidi said that the prices of cabins for occasions such as holidays are greatly exaggerated, adding that the phenomenon of price exaggeration is not limited to cabins, but even includes restaurants and tourist attractions in the country, where their prices are greatly increased, adding that when I simply calculate what I will spend on my domestic travel plans, it is very expensive if compared with a week-long trip and tour abroad. Hamidi believes that the prices of domestic tourism are “fire” high, as he said, and the beaches are overcrowded on special occasions, which makes it uncomfortable to visit these beaches with family.
