MEXICO CITY (apro) – Agents of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in Mexico City arrested a woman traveling on a bicycle, participating in the Ecobici program, that had been reported stolen for two years.

According to authorities, on July 11, 2022, bike-sharing program workers reported that a woman had not returned her bike while riding it on Obrero Mundial Street, in the Piedad Narvarte neighborhood, in the office of Mayor Benito Juárez.

A complaint has since been received by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX), which has launched an investigation into the events.

Video surveillance footage from C2 and C5 centres revealed a woman driving a bicycle with the same license plate as the stolen vehicle.

“The driver was using a green backpack, apparently purchased from a food delivery company as requested by the application, so that virtual surveillance was maintained,” the SSC detailed.

Yesterday, the 43-year-old woman and her bicycle appeared on Cuauhtémoc Avenue, in the Roma Sur neighborhood, at the intersection with Tehuantepec, in front of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, so the police stopped her and after verifying the theft report, they detained the crew

She was then referred to the public authorities to determine her legal status.
