Chinese police are investigating a large-scale theft of bodies from crematoriums and medical facilities for use in medical prostheses, TASS reported.
According to preliminary data, criminals earned about $53,000 from the sale of about 4,000 bodies.
The police seized 18 tons of bones and more than 34,000 completed or nearly completed prostheses. After clarification, the general manager of the company involved in the case confessed to the fact of illegally purchasing corpses.
The organization engages in underground activities in Sichuan Province, Shandong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
A total of 75 suspects have been detained. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
