In a recent interview, singing duo Ugaboys Africa shared their thoughts on the current state of songwriting in Uganda, arguing that Uganda has not seen a certified songwriter since the death of the late Mowzey Radio.
According to them, despite receiving offers from multiple songwriters eager to write lyrics for them, they were often disappointed after hearing the proposed lyrics.
The fact that they expressed a desire to write songs for these self-proclaimed songwriters highlights the gap in standards in the industry.

Furthermore, when confronted with the achievements of some of the songwriters who have received awards, Ugaboys vehemently denied these accolades, arguing that the true masters of songwriting are yet to emerge and that the few winners do not deserve these awards, stressing that only those who truly understand the craft can claim what is theirs.
A lot of writers want to sell us music, and when sending in their demos you hear what they wrote, but it really feels like we should be writing for them. All of these writers need help, and should be writing for them.
