The 2024 Casals Festival will end with a grand performance of the dramatic legend “The Damnation” by French composer Héctor Berlioz next Saturday (June 8) at 7:00 pm in the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall of the Santurce Fine Arts Center. Basketball Association).
This dramatic musical will feature the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maximiano Valdés and stage directed by Argentinian Marcelo Lombardero.
This lyrical drama will star the great American tenor John Irvin as Fausto and will feature a strong cast including the outstanding Puerto Rican soprano Melba Ramos, who lives in Europe, the powerful baritone Adrián Smith and the talented baritone Ricardo Sepúlveda.
For its part, the chorus of the work will be performed by the San Juan Philharmonic Chorus conducted by Carmen Acevedo. Meanwhile, the sets and videos that will be screened are by Matías Otalora, while the costumes are by Luciana Guttmann. Israel Franco Müller will be in charge of the lighting design and technical direction.
As a prelude to the grand closing of the Festival, the San Juan Ballet will present a performance inspired by a scene from The Damnation of Faust this Thursday (June 6) at 8:00 pm at the Pablo Casals Symphony Hall.
The dance show will be directed by Adolfo de la Toba and will feature Zulma Berrios as principal dancer and Nashalymar Román as principal soloist.
The ballet will be accompanied by Pau Pujols of the Philadelphia Ballet and Anton Joroshmanov of the National Ballet of Mexico, who will serve as guest dancers. The stage productions include “The Phantom of the Rose,” with music by Carl Maria von Weber; “Walpurgis Nights,” with music by Charles Gounod from the opera “Faust”; and “Faust,” with music by Gounod and Laszlo Du.
