U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed today that the United States had no involvement in or knowledge of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, chairman of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
“This is something we are not aware of and have no involvement with,” Blinken said in a statement during a visit to Singapore, adding that “it is very difficult to predict.”
He explained that the best way to calm tensions in the region is a ceasefire, noting that “the release of the hostages is very important.”
Earlier today, the Hamas movement announced that its political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated at his residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
