The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, will accept full-fee paying MBBS students

June 18day 2024 – The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine is preparing to train more Medical Science students for the highly competitive 5-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. From September 2024, UWI will welcome a select group of students to study our respected degree as full fee-paying students. These students will be admitted into the program as full fee-paying students once they meet the existing academic standards of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS).
As full-fee paying students, they will integrate seamlessly with their traditional September cohort and have equal access to our wealth of resources and opportunities. This includes comprehensive faculty mentoring, personalized academic advising, state-of-the-art library facilities, vibrant research opportunities, strong student support services and extracurricular activities. UWI’s commitment is to foster an environment that not only supports but enhances every student’s learning experience.
However, students in this cohort will be responsible for paying full-year tuition fees and other compulsory fees. As such, they will not be eligible for the Government Assistance for Tuition Fees (GATE) subsidy, the Trinidad and Tobago Government Bursary, Government Scholarships or other relevant funding schemes.
UWI has always facilitated self-paying (tuition and compulsory fees) students and FMS is keen to progressively expand opportunities for such students to access our courses by September 2024. This move by FMS is in line with UWI’s overall Triple A strategy which aims to strengthen:
