The United States topped the medal table at the Paris Olympics with 126 medals, while China had 91.
The U.S. women’s basketball team defeated the host France team with an amazing performance and won the last gold medal of this Olympics, further consolidating the U.S. team’s advantage.
France won 16 gold medals, bringing its total to 64, its best total in more than a century.
The US women’s basketball team won a hard-fought 67-66 victory over the host France, consolidating their control of the tournament, which they have not lost since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, after which the city of Los Angeles inherited the Olympic flag. On Sunday, the 2024 Paris edition will come to an end.
The first of 13 medals awarded on the final day went to Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, who failed to defend her titles in the 5,000m and 10,000m, winning bronze and finally a gold in the City of Lights. Ultimately, the US women’s basketball team won its eighth consecutive championship.
After the competition, the US team won a total of 126 medals, including 44 silver medals, while the Chinese team won 91 medals, including 27 silver medals.
