The current relations between Ukraine and Georgia could have been more qualitative and better – it is no exaggeration to say that one should suppress the exemplary relations between Georgia and Ukraine, said Myhaylo Kalishini, the interim representative of Ukraine to Georgia, in an exclusive interview with Interpress News.

As he pointed out, Ukraine has no objection to Georgia establishing diplomatic relations with Ukraine at the ambassadorial level.

“If we objectively assess the current relations between Ukraine and Georgia, they could have been much more qualitative and better. Despite certain negative or incomprehensible statements about Ukraine from time to time by the Georgian political establishment or individual Georgian politicians, we have high-level dialogue and mutual support on the international stage. First of all, this is about the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine and Georgia, about the security of our two countries.

If we talk about the key facts of the recent past, it is known that in October 2022, Ukraine invited and accepted the appointment of a new Georgian ambassador to Ukraine. When the decree of the President of Ukraine on the appointment of the ambassador was ready, the then head of the Georgian government suddenly made incomprehensible remarks. Unfortunately, other Georgian politicians, including representatives of government bodies and parliament, soon adopted such remarks. The impression is that someone should suppress the once unexaggerated exemplary relations between Georgia and Ukraine. Of course, in such a background, as a country that respects itself and other countries, like any other normal country, Ukraine cannot ignore these facts. I want to let you know that Ukraine is not opposed to the establishment of diplomatic relations between us at the ambassadorial level. To do this, it is necessary to avoid certain negative factors and tendencies that I have already spoken about. As they say, the ball is currently in Georgia’s half, “said Myhaylo Kalishny.

We remind you that after March 2022, Ukraine will no longer have an ambassador in Georgia.
