“After we listened to the mediators about what happened in the discussions, it became clear to us that Netanyahu is still creating obstacles to reaching an agreement,” the Hamas movement said in a statement late Sunday.
Hamas explained that “the new proposal responds to and is in line with Netanyahu’s conditions, especially his rejection of a permanent ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza, and responds to Netanyahu’s conditions, especially his insistence on the continued occupation of the Nezarim hub, the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia corridor.”
“Netanyahu is putting forward new conditions and demands aimed at frustrating the efforts of mediators and prolonging the war. He has put forward new conditions in the prisoner exchange document and withdrawn other clauses, which has hindered the completion of the exchange agreement,” the movement said.
Hamas holds Netanyahu “fully responsible for frustrating the efforts of the mediators and undermining the agreement”, and the movement affirms “our commitment to the July 2 agreement, which is based on Biden’s statement and the Security Council resolution”.
Hamas called on the mediators to “take up their responsibilities and force the occupying power to implement what was agreed upon,” adding that “through the efforts of the Qatari and Egyptian mediators and all the proposals aimed at reaching an agreement, we have assumed all responsibilities.”
The movement said it called on “the mediator to submit a plan to implement what was proposed and agreed to us so that the negotiations do not fall into a vicious circle.”
