Tour operator TUI surveyed 1,000 tourists Their holiday habits and preferencesThis is what annoys them the most and can turn these moments of idleness and rest into a nightmare…
Belgian tourists therefore particularly appreciate the calm when on holiday. The goal: to leave worries behind… Therefore, anything that disrupts this tranquility becomes their worst nightmare. Consider other noisy tourists (which the majority of respondents ranked as their biggest pet peeve). But men (59%) are more sensitive to this than women (50%).

Hotel rooms (43%) also come under scrutiny, where women in particular have high expectations for cleanliness and are easily upset by an uncomfortable bed (29%).
Another unpleasant moment: the sun lounger wars. This is a reality in many hotels: you have to get up early to reserve a spot around the pool and place your towel in the right place, some hotels completely ban entry before a certain time to avoid this phenomenon… 39. % of Belgian tourists feel inconvenienced at this stage of the day and get annoyed if they can’t find the spot they want.
As food lovers, Belgians also pay a lot of attention to what they put on their plates. 26% of Flemish and 36% of French speakers said they have been to a hotel that did not meet their expectations in terms of food. Whether it was a buffet that was not plentiful enough and did not vary enough from day to day, watered-down drinks or cocktails that were not always well measured and executed, some venues really should review their standards…
Interestingly, they are not disturbed by their own children… Proving that the difference between familiar noises and external noises is quite significant in terms of tolerance…
14% of Belgian tourists also think that the weather ruins their holiday. Indeed, it can be frustrating to find yourself in grey or rainy weather when you have left Belgium to enjoy better weather…
“At TUI, the number of complaints against hotels has decreased significantly over the years,” the travel agency reports. “Travelers can now express their opinions more clearly, and social networks can highlight the weaknesses of accommodation. Reviews from other travelers also give a realistic picture of our expectations.” This will help avoid disappointment on site, depending on your wishes and needs.
