Belon, Punta Cana, La Altagracia. – President Luis Abinader and Tourism Secretary David Collado inaugurated this Saturday the reconstruction of Domingo Maiz Highway and its interconnection with Punta Cana Boulevard, with an investment of more than 135 million pesos.

The project, an old request of the community, consists of rebuilding the 3.90 km long Domingo Metz Street, divided into 2 sections of variable width, extending north from the city of Las Palmas to the intersection of East Tourism Avenue (Carretera Turístico del Este) Higüey-Miches).

It will have a huge impact on traffic in the area, including reducing travel times from the Eastern Tourist Boulevard to the Coral Highway.

President Abinader stressed the importance of the Territorial Planning Law, which he defined as the country’s fundamental plan for sustainable economic and social development.

He insisted that the law was one of the most important approved in the past four years, and he said work was underway to implement the first territorial planning plan in Belon. “Tourism and development must continue to grow, but in an orderly manner,” he noted.

He called on businessmen, residents and lawmakers to work together to make Belon the first and its compliance a model for the whole country.

Meanwhile, Minister Collado stressed the importance of this work and its positive impact on the tourist province of La Altagracia.

“This work reaffirms the clear vision of President Luis Abinader to continue strengthening the most important destination in the country, which receives the majority of tourists who visit us,” Collado said.

Domingo Metz Street is an important circulation route that provides traffic from the Coral Highway to the Eastern Tourist Boulevard, and is an excellent alternative route to relieve traffic congestion in Belon.

In addition to President Abinader and Minister Corrado, relevant provincial and municipal departments and major entrepreneurs from the tourism industry in the eastern region attended the event.

The reconstruction works are being implemented by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure of the Tourist Area (CEIZTUR) for a total amount of 135,643,208 RD$.

The work also includes the construction of 14,500 square meters of sidewalks along the entire length of the road; 8,900 linear meters of containers. It is also equipped with gutters and filters to guarantee the correct flow of water and guarantee the durability of the constructed road. Horizontal and vertical signage and lighting are included.

One section is 1.90 km long, has two lanes and is 8 meters wide; the other section is 2.50 km long and 10 meters wide.
