Thimphu Municipality hired 70 workers to destroy the water tanks between Rdo Gdan and Tarab and repair work is underway.

The critical repair works, including pipe removal, wall repairs and installations, were expected to be completed yesterday.

The pipeline was damaged on Sunday due to incessant rain.

The damaged water tanks include Glangrgyug Pharkha, Dyangchenphug Middle School and Changji G. Distribution centers are located in other areas such as the National Insurance Company, Housing Corporation, and are also spread across the lower district of Changzamtok.

“However, they damaged buildings and pipes yesterday,” town officials said, adding that if the work is completed yesterday, they will try to irrigate the land starting tonight.

However, it will take until Thursday afternoon for all affected residents to receive drinking water.

The township will temporarily distribute drinking water to residents, please use it.

If this is done, further delays and accidents will occur and the public will be contacted, the official said.

The town is trying to find a solution to the vehicle problem. The drinking water distribution in Talmad has been reduced to three times a day.

The areas without access to drinking water are Glangrgyug Pharkha and Dyangchenphuk Secondary School, while other areas sustained only minor damage.

He said when the Thimphu Municipality started it, it took weeks to complete the restoration work as the site would be a little far from the road as the country’s economy is growing rapidly.
