News from Angola – The second Traditional Festival will be held this Friday, from the 30th to the 1st of September, in the city of Lunda Norte.
This annual event is held to celebrate and promote the Lungtak Tso Kwe culture.
According to a press release, the event will bring together artists, traditional groups and fans of Angolan culture for three days of intense celebration.
The second Heritage Festival is an important event to preserve and promote the region’s cultural practices, including music, dance, visual arts and traditional rituals passed down from generation to generation.
During the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to experience displays of traditional costumes and hairstyles, listen to ancestral music played with authentic instruments, and enjoy traditional dances and games that tell stories of their ancestors, the report said.
The festival offers a wide variety of activities including lectures on the historical connections and rituals of the Lunda-Tsokuei people, exhibitions of crafts, food and musical instruments from the region, a pilgrimage to make offerings to the “Mzambi-Kalunga” (water god), traditional dances with the authorities and a parade of folk dancers from the region.
To this end, the initiative aims to increase awareness and environmental education among the Tshokwé community, encouraging recycling and proper waste management.
Lunda Norte is one of Angola’s most iconic provinces, with ancient cultural roots and cross-border links with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
The Heritage Festival has emerged with the aim of further promoting Angolan culture, highlighting the urgent need to preserve and revitalize Lunda-Tsoqué culture, involving communities, partners and the media so that traditions do not disappear in modern times.
The festival is a space where past and present meet to ensure that the traditions and values of Lungtak Tso Kwe are respected and celebrated in the future.
