Indian man spent 42 hours in apartment building
Ravindran Nair reportedly found himself in an “elevator” at a hospital in Thirunavattapuram, southern India, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, and was then rushed to the hospital on Monday, July 15, 2024, a total of two days later. The Indian Press.
When he first arrived at the hospital, he brought a lady who came for back pain and was put in the ‘X-ray’ machine. Ravindran had forgotten the results of the previous blood test and after returning home, his doctor ordered a test. His wife had to go to work, so he went to work and the man returned home alone to the hospital and entered the ‘ascent’ alone to reach the second floor.
“It was a little after noon and there was no one else in the lift, but the light was on and I didn’t think there was anything unusual,” he told the BBC.
He clicked the elevator sign for going up, but it was noisy, then went down again between the first and second floors.
The 59-year-old man said that when he saw that there was something wrong with the iron, he immediately called the number of the emergency services written on the “ascenseur,” and this is where the Way of the Cross begins. Because he did not rush to answer the emergency call, he tried to call his wife and others who could help him, but no one answered the phone.
He said: “I was so scared I started knocking on the lift door to see if anyone was listening and that’s when my phone fell to the floor and broke. That’s when I started to wonder if I was going to die.
Seeing that he had reached the door, Ravindran continued to walk around and click on the numbers inside, including those that would ring the alarm bell, but to no avail.
He continued: “The time passed by, and I didn’t know whether it was day or night because there was no light inside. When I was tired, I would sleep in one corner, and I would use another corner to stop myself and push myself.
His wife and two sons were not concerned about him not coming home on Saturday because he had flexible work schedules during the week, but they noticed he had not returned home on Sunday and they could not reach him by phone, so they started notifying him. Administrators searched all wards for the man who had completely disappeared.
“I started to wonder if I was going to die in the elevator,” he said.
At around 6am on Monday, the technician in charge of the iron found it stuck between the first and second floors and he later found that Ravindran Nair had been there for 42 hours to be treated for dehydration and returned in pain.
Hospital health authorities immediately launched an investigation and temporarily suspended the staff member who performed the “Star Riser” surgery this week.
