Tazabek – The Kyrgyz dairy industry is facing the problem of high prices of raw materials, which are far above global indicators. This was announced by Syimyk Taichabarov, executive director of the Kyrgyz Dairy Association, on the radio.
He said that after the signing of the presidential decree on agricultural development, several key factors emerged that had a positive impact on the sector.
“I can probably emphasize the most important thing – encouraging families to join cooperatives. Overall, the situation in Kyrgyzstan is that for the last 30 years, we have about 130,000 households raising 2-3 cows. This is about 97% of the total number of farms involved in raw milk production, but their production level is not professional. This, of course, affects the price of raw milk,” Taichabarov pointed out.
He also said that the cost of dairy raw materials in Kyrgyzstan is 30-40% higher than the global benchmark.
“It should be taken into account that the basis of fat and protein content in world prices is slightly higher than ours. Looking ahead, I think we need to lower these prices. Or, at least in the initial stage, when the transition from small-scale to large-scale production is to be smooth, with prices falling year by year and farmers uniting to be able to buy high-quality milk at a high price,” he added.
