Price changes of various products
In addition to the inflation rate, CBS also publishes price changes for several product groups in its flash estimates. These product groups are collections of spending categories for a particular topic (such as “all services”). Price changes for all categories in the CPI will be published on July 9.

HICP flash point estimation
CBS publishes two different inflation data. One is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the other is based on the European Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). According to the preliminary estimate of the HICP, the inflation rate in June was 3.4%. In May, the HICP inflation rate was 2.7%.
To facilitate comparisons between countries, EU member states calculate consumer price indices according to internationally accepted definitions and methods. Eurostat uses HICP data for all EU countries to calculate inflation rates for the euro area and the EU. The European Central Bank (ECB) uses HICP to formulate monetary policy in the euro area. In addition, most countries have national consumer price indices.
The main difference between the CPI and the HICP in the Netherlands is that the HICP does not take into account the costs associated with home ownership, while the CPI does. In the CPI, these costs are calculated based on changes in housing rents. However, this is not the only difference. This article will explain these differences in more detail.
