Maria Brañas Morera from Spain, believed to be the oldest person on Earth, dies at 117 Tengri Life.

“Maria Brañas died the way she wanted: in her sleep, peacefully and without pain,” the family said on Twitter.

It is understood that shortly before her death, Maria agreed to undergo scientific tests conducted by researchers in the hope of uncovering the secret of longevity.

The woman was born in San Francisco in 1907, at the height of the second wave of the Black Death. Later, in 1915, she decided to move to Spain, where she spent the First World War after her father, Joseph, fell ill. In her 117 years, Mary lived through the Black Death, two world wars, the Spanish Flu pandemic, the Spanish Civil War, and Covid-19. She leaves behind her only son, whom she raised with her late husband, Joan Moret, who died in 1976.

One day, she felt very weak and asked her family not to cry when she left, and she also promised that she would be happy “wherever she went.”
