New Diary, New York. – The New York Times this Friday in an editorial calls on US President Joe Biden to abandon his campaign and remain in the White House, as the Democrat’s performance in front of Donald Trump during yesterday’s debate was highly questioned.
The editorial was titled “To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Give Up His Campaign”, in which the famous newspaper assured that “the greatest public service Mr. Biden can provide now is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election.”».
Biden’s performance in the face-to-face meeting with the Republican politician portrayed a candidate weakened by his age, with him repeatedly hesitating, speaking incoherently and introducing inaccurate data.
“It’s too big a gamble to simply expect Americans to overlook or ignore Mr. Biden’s age and weaknesses,” the headline stressed, suggesting that his request for the Democratic nominee was not a compliment to Trump, but quite the opposite; they viewed him as a common enemy.
In fact, The New York Times called Biden “an admirable president” under whose leadership the United States “has prospered and begun to address a range of long-standing challenges.”
The Times agrees, saying that a return of Donald Trump (2017-2021) to the Oval Office would bring “dangers” that would jeopardize “the future of American democracy” and could make good on “his most extreme promises and threats.”
However, according to The New York Times, Biden is “no longer the same man he was four years ago” and during yesterday’s debate he failed to “convince the American public that he can meet the daunting demands.”
They recalled that this performance could not be described as a “bad night” or attributed to a “cold”, even though “it was Biden himself who initiated this verbal duel with Trump”, so he should be replaced.
“Calling for a new Democratic nominee at this stage of the campaign is a decision not made lightly, but it reflects the scale and severity of the Trump challenge (…) Biden is ill-equipped to meet it,” said an editorial hosted by Meredith Kopit Levien.
For the aforementioned media, within the ranks of the Democratic Party there are leaders who best embody “a clear, convincing and dynamic alternative” to a second Trump presidency, although they did not risk naming them: “There is no reason for the party to risk stability and the security of the country.
Likewise, the paper has repeatedly accused Trump in editorials, calling him an “erratic, self-serving figure unworthy of the public’s trust,” a “malignant deformity,” or a “candidate defined by lies.”
The New York Times said: “It is a tragedy that Republicans did not conduct a deeper examination of their conscience after the debate… He lied blatantly and repeatedly about his own behavior, his presidential record and his opponents.”
