NASSAU | The Bahamas News Service is following the arrest of a Haitian national who attempted to leave the Bahamas with approximately $90,000 in cash.

Police stopped and searched Monell Philemon, 37, of Matthew Street, who admitted to failing to declare funds while attempting to depart a flight from Palo Alto International Airport (LPIA) on August 13, 2024.

Airport authorities found approximately $89,341 in cash in the lining of Filemon’s luggage.

Travelers must declare all funds over $10,000. These funds come from a variety of sources.

What’s up? Duane Sands said Bahamians can’t buy cars, but foreigners can bring in $90,000 at a time through the LPIA.
