The main prize went to a film about sex workers, and Emilia Perez won two awards – Cannes Film Festival results

Central Asia (KZ) – The film “Anora” directed by American film director Sean Baker won the “Golden Palm” main award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival Report European News.
The film tells the story of a sex worker who travels between New York and Las Vegas. The son of a Russian oligarch marries a stripper despite his parents’ objections to such a marriage.
The main character of “Anora” is played by American actress Mickey Madison, and the two male protagonists are played by Russian actors Mark Edelstein and Yuri Borisov.
In his speech at the awards ceremony, Baker said the film was dedicated to “all sex workers – present, past and future”. The director also pointed out that his work was influenced by American director Francis Ford Coppola and Canadian film director David Cronenberg.

The second most important award was the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, which went to Indian director Payal Kapadia for his film All We Imagine Is Light.
This is the third time that Kapadia is attending the Cannes Film Festival – she made her debut at the festival in 2017 with her film “A Cloud Afternoon”.

French director Jacques Audiard’s film “Emilia Perez” won two major awards at the same time, which is rare at the Cannes Film Festival.
The jury awarded the Best Actress award to four actresses: Selena Gomez, Carla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana and Adriana Paz. The film also won the third most important award, the Jury Prize.
Sofia Gascon has become the first transgender actress to win an acting award at the Cannes Film Festival. The actress dedicated the award to the transgender community.

Best Director went to Portugal’s Miguel Gomes for his feature film “The Grand Tour,” about a British civil servant who hops from one Asian country to another to avoid his fiancée, who is trying to find him.

The festival’s special prize went to Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof for his film “Seeds of the Sacred Fig.” The Iranian film is considered one of the favorites to win the Palme d’Or. The director mentioned the actors and crew imprisoned in Iran during his speech at the Lumière Theater.
The “Best Actor” award went to American actor Jesse Plemons for his role in the film “The Good” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.

Director Coralie Fargeia and actress Demi Moore
The best screenplay award went to Coralie Fargea, the writer and director of “Matter.” The director thanked her lead actress Demi Moore and said she was proud of their collaboration.
The Best Cinematography Award went to Norwegian cinematographer Halfdan Ulman Tendl, who worked on the film “Armand.”
