The classical music festival “Kustendorf Classic” will be held from August 31 to September 3 in the Mećavnik ethno-village in Mokra Gora, organizers have announced.
In the competition part of the festival, young musicians from Serbia, Russia and Belarus, as well as students of the Music and Art Faculties of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Omsk, Tyumen, Khanty-Mansiysk, Noyabrsk, Tomsk, Minsk, as well as students of the Faculty of Art Music of Kosovska Mitrovica.
The winner of the Golden Matryoshka Festival Prize will be chosen by an international jury, which includes Mikhail Golikov, artistic director and chief conductor of the Leningrad State Symphony Orchestra, Vladimir Milosevic, pianist and professor at the Belgrade Academy of Music, and Maja Le Ru Obradović, a Swiss-Serbian composer and guitarist.
The evening hours are dedicated to concerts by renowned local and international artists, and will feature the debut of two musicals and stage productions.
On the first night of the festival, Russian pianist Zarina Šimanska, winner of numerous international piano competitions and artist of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and mezzo-soprano Zinaida Carenko, soloist of the Alinsky Theater, will perform.
The second evening of the festival will feature the opera “Behind the Scenes” by Serbian composer Vera Milankovic.
The operetta will be performed by the Art Troupe “Stanislav Binički” of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Studentski Grad Cultural Center.
The third evening, September 2, will feature performances by Serbian violinist Luka Faulizi, young pianist Bogdan Dugalić and talented guitarist Uroš Jaćević.
The festival will close with the dramatic opera Shum šume preko polje by composer Aleksandar Sedlar.
According to the organizers, performances by students of the Academy of Musical Talents of Chuprija, Belgrade’s “Mokranjac” and “Vatroslav Lisinski” music schools, as well as composers Petar Stojanović and Ante Görkin were featured.
During the festival on September 1st, a new gallery called “Đuzepe Rotuno” will be opened, along with a photography exhibition by Janko Kusturica.
In the 11 years since the festival was founded, top stars of classical music have performed in Mećavnik, including Denis Macujev, Aleksandar Madžar, Valerij Gergijev, Nemanja Radulović, Julijan Rahlin, Roman Simović, Srba Dinić, Oleg Akuratov and many others.
The festival “Kustendorf Classics” is a joint project of the famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica and the company “Gasprom Neft”.
