The former governor asked “my daughter” to raise N3 million for the N33 road project, but was rejected

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has shared the experience of a “daughter” who dealt with corrupt politicians in the country.

The 82-year-old pastor disclosed this at the church convention held at the Redemption Camp on Lagos- Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

Christians, he said, should be “a special group” so that when “the world asks you to compromise,” you can say “I am a Christian.”

He said: “One of my daughters testified years ago that she applied for a contract. She was given a contract to lay a section of tarmac road. I will not tell you which state it was. She quoted a price for the tarmac road – 3 million naira. The governor said, ‘OK, don’t worry, we will give you the contract but you need to rewrite your quote. Make it 33 million naira.’

“She said ‘how can this happen?’ They (the governor) said ‘don’t worry, you pave the road and we will pay you N3 million. The remaining N30 million is ours.’

“My daughter said ‘I can’t do this.’ The governor asked her why and she said ‘I’m a child of God, how can I spend this money?’ They looked at her like she was a fallen person.

“We talk about corruption in the country. . . Why do you think corruption has become so entrenched? It’s because we Christians are supposed to be different – it’s hard to know who is who these days.

“Another of my children told another story – applied for a contract. They gave her a contract to go and lay asphalt on a road. She arrived and found the road already laid. She came back and said there must have been a mistake. They said – ‘Well, what’s your problem? The work has been done, take your money and give us our own money.'”
