Relatives of the Koltemark family, who died last weekend in a horrific traffic accident, want a quick trial. They raised this question with their lawyers during a long and emotional conversation. “They have been hit with a hammer but now want to show resilience and are looking for answers. They ask the court for a speedy trial,” said their lawyer Thomas Bailleul.
Relatives of the Koltemark family are now trying to reconcile the fact that their loved ones Jannik, Janice and their daughter Messer were cruelly taken from their lives a few days ago. Last weekend, they were involved in a horrific traffic accident on the E403 motorway in Ruddervoorde, when their car was hit and killed by 50-year-old Jurgen L. from Torhout.

Process flexibility
“They specifically ask the court to make every effort to ensure that the trial proceeds expeditiously,” said Master Barel, who defended the interests of Janik and Janice’s sisters, her father and related families.
“They want the documents to be completed as soon as possible and hope for a quick but calm process. I had a long conversation with them on Tuesday. These people have been hit hard by the sledgehammer. In fact, they don’t know what has happened to them in the past few days. They are full of sadness, failure, but also full of anger. But at the same time, they now want to show resilience: they are committed to a speedy trial and hope to defend the rights of their loved ones. Previous convictions
In recent days, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the 14 convictions of the killer Jurgen L. from Torhout. He was also convicted of drunk driving. His last driving ban was probably never enforced. “But for us, this is really nonsense,” the lawyer continued.
“Whether he’s been convicted in the past or not, whether he’s been punished in that way or not. It doesn’t matter. The fact is, he was driving too fast and was driving under the influence. That’s important for us to evaluate later.”
Meanwhile, Jurgen L. had a long conversation with his lawyer, Walter Vansteenbrugge. “My client bursts into tears after two sentences. He is extremely affected and the man is very sorry.”
The funeral cost a small amount of charity
Jurgen L. also said that he wanted to pay funeral expenses to surviving relatives immediately and asked the lawyer to contact the family. “We have read it too. I will convey it to the family and see if they are willing to accept it, although it seems to be a meager donation at the moment,” Bariel concluded. The family has started crowdfunding for funeral expenses and many people have donated.
