The Security Council extended its Until July 27, 2025 The restrictive measures will be introduced in light of Iran’s response to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and its military support to armed groups and entities in the Middle East and the Red Sea region. The existing restrictive measures will continue to be reviewed annually.
The current sanctions regime applies to 12 people and Nine entities.

In its conclusions of 21-22 March 2024, the European Council called on third parties, including Iran, to immediately stop providing material support to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.
The European Council reaffirmed its commitment to further restrictive measures on Iran, in particular with regard to drones and missiles, in its conclusions of 17-18 April 2024. Finally, the European Council reiterated that the EU remains fully committed to contributing to de-escalation and security in the region.
On May 14, 2024, in light of Iran’s military support for Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the EU Council expanded the scope of the EU’s restrictive measures framework to cover drones and missiles, as well as Iran’s drone and missile programme’s support for armed groups and entities in the Middle East and the Red Sea region.
In addition, the EU Council also banned the export to Iran of other parts used for the development and production of drones.
On 31 May and 24 June, the Council added six individuals and four entities to the Framework list.
