His Excellency Dr. Nasr al-Din al-Obaid, Director General of the Arab Center for the Study of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), discusses with His Excellency Dr. Hadi Hashim al-Yasiri, Director General of the Horticulture Department, at the Organization’s headquarters today, the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and its accompanying technical delegation, to present the partnership between the two parties and how it can be developed and strengthened to achieve sustainable agricultural development in the Arab region.
During the meeting, Dr. Obeid briefly introduced the achievements of the organization in the early stage, especially the dozens of agricultural development projects implemented in the Republic of Iraq, which have achieved important results in developing agricultural production, the most important of which are the adoption of high-yield wheat and barley varieties, such as the “ACSAD 65” variety, which has helped to improve Iraq’s ability to produce wheat, the adoption of soft wheat varieties “ACSAD 901” and “ACSAD 65” varieties. The drought-resistant and high-yield barley variety “ACSAD 1832”, the provision of hundreds of thousands of fruit trees to Iraq to strengthen, develop and develop the horticulture industry in the Republic of Iraq, in addition to cultivating the capacity of Iraqi technicians and technicians. Provide them with dozens of scientific references and atlases published by the organization.
Dr. Obeid assured the guest delegation that the Arab Center for Drought Research stands ready to put all its capabilities and expertise at the service of the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture’s programs and projects in order to achieve its ambitions and future plans to develop the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Yasiri praised the efforts of the Arab Center for Drought Research, the activities of its researchers and experts and its contribution to the development of Arab agriculture, sustainable development and progress of the agricultural scientific research sector, which has proven to be highly efficient in all areas of its work, and expressed his hope to benefit from research and applied activities to develop agriculture and water in the Republic of Iraq, based on the achievements and success stories he saw and heard with the accompanying technical delegation of ACSAD.
At the end of the meeting, a coordinated technical report covering aspects of joint cooperation between the two sides was signed, and the delegation also visited the advanced research station and laboratory and was briefed on the major research conducted by ACSAD.
