The Central Election Commission’s decision to refuse to register Pobeda Bloc for the October elections was based on several reasons. These included the similarity of the group’s name to that of a political party, the organization’s financing methods and the fact that Marina Tauber was included on an international sanctions list.
According to the representative of the Central Election Commission, the Victory Group is composed of four political parties: Victory, Renaissance, Opportunity and Alternative Forces to Save Moldova. Marina Tauber was appointed as the Secretary of the Election Commission. The group applied to register for the constitutional referendum on July 30 and applied to register for the presidential election on August 2 on October 20. The two applications were merged on August 3.
As a result, the Central Election Commission has rejected the registration of the Victory Bloc to participate in the referendum for or against and in the autumn presidential election. This also means that Vasily Bolya, who recently announced his candidacy for the Pobeda presidential election, will no longer be able to register as a candidate of the pro-Russian bloc.
Bolya can run in the elections as an independent candidate or with the support of a registered political party. However, the CEC’s decision is not final. An appeal can be filed with the Chisinau Court of Appeal within three days. The “Victory” bloc includes four parties: the “Opportunities” party led by Alexey Lungu, the “Renaissance” party led by Natalia Paraska, the “Alternative Forces to Save Moldova” party led by Alexandru Beschieru and the “Victory” party led by Vadim Grozavu.
